GLBP doubts

I'm running GLBP on my routers with L3 device behind (65xx). The load balancing do not seems to work very well (70/30) , so is that true that GLBP are meant for L2 device behind? Thanks

Re: GLBP doubts

Hi,

AFAIK, GLBP is designed for L2 switches and L3 edge scenarios where your L3 boundry router is the gateway for your hosts.

If you run GLBP on your 65xx, you will se true load-balancing.

HTH, Please rate if it does.

Re: GLBP doubts

Hi

In your scenaryo you best make GLBP on the Cat6K and run a dynamic Routing Protocol such as EIGRP or OSPF between your Cat6K and your routers and make per packet loadbalancing (best with CEF). Then you will get the maximum out of your redunant links. Also be carefull with the topology behind the Cat6K, if you have Vlans spanning multiple switches there will be links in spantree blocking state whitch may make GLBP not the optimal choice (if you have just one L2 Accessswitch per VLAN, then you can make it without any blocking link, and GLBP will of course be the best choice).

Hope that helps, otherwise ask again with some more details.

Best regards

Simon
