GRE Tunnel process or fast-switched

Is a GRE tunnel process switched or fast switched?

In the 12.2 Mainline IOS documentation, there is the following statement:

"Encapsulation and the removal of encapsulation at the tunnel end points are slow operations; in general, only processor switching is supported. However, fast switching of GRE tunnels was introduced in Cisco IOS Release 11.1 for the Cisco 2500 series and the Cisco 4000 series of routers."

I'm thinking that this is old text that was never updated and that other/all platforms support fast switched GRE tunnels.

yes the tunnel interfaces are fast-switched. if cef ( cisco express forwarding ) is enable then the incoming packets will be cef switched..
