High CPU Utilization average

Hi,

I´m seeing a 7500 router running IOS 12.0(22)S2, the CPU Utilization is 40-50%, but I don´t see any process that is using CPU constantly.

server75#sh processes cpu

CPU utilization for five seconds: 44%/37%; one minute: 52%; five minutes: 49%

What can I do for low the % CPU utlization average ?

regards,

Carlos

Re: High CPU Utilization average

Hi. my name is choi tae young.

a personal opinion is following. (I'm korean so english skill is very low ^^)

1. CPU utilization for five seconds: 44%/37%

first field is 44 % describes the Average total utilization during last five

seconds and the second field is 37 % describes the Average utilization due

to interrupts,during last five seconds.

If your router have the linecards such as VIP cards then you enabled the CEF or Distibuted CEF to fast switching.

2. Verify the enabled the interrupt level funtions such as access-list, NAT ...

I recommended that serching the CISCO homepage related your problems.

Thank you for reading my responds.

Re: High CPU Utilization average

Hi Carlos,

Can U also check "sh proc cpu history".. This will give U the router's CPU utilisation for last 3 days or 72 Hrs. From this we can confirm if the router CPU utl is constant or peaking during a particular period.

Also the suggestion given on enabling CEF distributed is also a good option.

Re: High CPU Utilization average

Hi,

the 7500 has IP CEF (no distributed). I´m seeing that the interface Gig 3/0/0 is showing drops, flushes and throttle, this interface has 2 subinterfaces 3/0/0.8 and 3/0/0.80 and this has rate-limit input and output.

With this configuration, Is still a good option enabling IP CEF distributed for to low the CPU´s Utilization ?

thanks,

Carlos
