Is it normal to have 45% cpu utilization in a catalyst 4006..? I see no strange processes other than switching overhead and admin overhead, which use 32% of CPU. What could be causing such behavior..? Also, pings to sc0 interface are really high, I mean, over 10 ms of time response.
on the 4006 switch, typical CPU utilization can be anywhere between 1 and 50%, depending on what modules you have installed. If you have e.g. inline power modules in your switch, CPU utilization can be around 50%.
Check out this document for a detailed explanantion of CPU utilization on the 4006:
This is probably within the normal range . You should not use a switch management interface for ping times , ping ranks low on how the packets are handled and management interfaces will always be higher than other traffic . Always ping thru a device to get response times , ping to a end user station versus a interface on the router itself .
This is actually a pretty cool feature, i didn't even know it existed until I was looking for a solution to advertise a subnet (prefix in BGP talk), only if a certain condition existed. This is exactly what conditional advertisements does
