I have a laptop with no serial or com port. Does anyone know how to establish a console connection to a Cisco Router using a USB,PCMCIA or LPT ports.
I have a rollover cabe and a usb to Ethernet adapter but that doesn't seem to work. Any suggestions would be appresiated.
Thank You.

Elbows,
You will have to either buy a parallel to serial converter and then use a db9 adapter and cisco router console cable to access the router.
OR you can buy, what is called as USB PDA adapter.
This is a USB to serial port converter.
Check this vendor.

Thanks for the tip. I've ordered a USB to RS232 cable for about £10 which I think is about $15. It says it comes with a driver disk so I imagine this would simulate a COM port.
Thanks again,

Keyspan rocks... install is easy. Typically they install as com4. They are relatively cheap... can probably get one direct for $50.

do you by any chance have another router around that IS configured? If so, you could run a rollover cable from the aux port on the configured router to the console port on the not-configured router and reverse-telnet to the configured router.

Just a description of Charles's idea.
R1 --- aux ----rollover cable---console ---R2
R1 - configured router
R2 - non configured router
Now telnet into R1.
and do the following configurations as per the link.

Once this is setup, you will be able to access the console of R2.
