The cheap way to do it is to put Pc's back to back with cross-over cable and get a 200-500 meg zip file and ftp from PC to PC and time the transfers.

www.netiq.com - get the (FREE) program "QCheck"

It's a scaled down version of the Chariot testing suite specifically designed to look for throughput, latency, and packet drop.

If you are testing the two NICs competitively, set up one machine as a control connection point (that machine, and the hub/switch, and the cables should all be the same for both tests). Put each NIC into the other computer and run QCheck. Run it both ways (A->B, then B-->A) and average your results.

If you just wat to see how fast the two are talking to each other, then just load Qcheck on each machine and run it (still go both ways, you'd be surprised how much the rates can vary).

Good Luck

Scott
