we are trying to get a 1721 router with ip ver12.2(8)T to share ntp with a cat 4006 L3 module. The L3 module points to a ntp master outside our network and works fine. I do a debug sntp packets on the 1721 and see sends and recieve packets from the L3 module. But the time does not update and the sh clock detail command displays no time source. Any ideas ??????

you have to mention on the 1721 router the: clock timezone gmt ??

on the cat try this command: ntp peer xx.xx.xx.xx

Hello!

Ya I have put the timezone in on both the rsm and the 1721. I haven't put ntp pere in. Why would you need this ??

thanks. : ))

Which version of SNTP you are using? Secondly, are there any restrictions on sntp server?

Regards

Vijay

Hi Vijay!

Thanks for the response.

We are running version 2 of SNTP on a 1721. I have ntp running on a cat4006 rsm with no accesslist or anything. Here is what I see when I do a "show sntp" on the 1721.

SMC-JUN-R1#sh sntp

SNTP server Stratum Version Last Receive

10.160.245.245 16 2 never

The ip address above is a loopback 0 interface on our rsm in the cat4006. If I do a debug sntp packets on the 1721, I see the following. It looks like its recieveing but when I do a sh clock detail this is what comes up.

Have you seen this ???

sh clock detail

SMC-JUN-R1#sh clock detail
