How to configure L2 Multicast handling on a BVI

We have BVIs with the corresponding subinterfaces.

There is no possibility to configure CGMP on a BVI. How to handle

IGMP Requests on the L3 Interface of the router (BVI)?

Hi,

what router type are you using? Do you have to use BVI?

I remember the same problem on Cat2948G-L3 two years ago - I finally made a workaround:

"router the stick" - 802.1q trunk with ip cgmp on subinterface, isolated bridge group connected to the propper VLAN on another switch via a separate external cable.

Hi Milan

Thanks for the answer.

Thats what we are doing as well! Same router, same configuration. But

I don't see any cgmp messages flowing between the switch and the router.

Stefan

Hi,

this is the configuration I've used:

interface GigabitEthernet50.1

encapsulation dot1Q 1 native

ip address .....................

no ip redirects

no ip directed-broadcast

ip pim sparse-mode

ip cgmp

And

set cgmp enable

on CatOS-based switches (it's enabled by default on IOS-based switches).

Use sh cgmp statistics on CatOS to see if CGMP is running and reciving join packets from the router.

sh multicast .... command will show you datils, too.

sh cgmp ..... command can be used to check on IOS switches.

Regards,

Milan
