how to configure/reach to 10/100 ethernet management port on 4500?

hi mates :)

On 4500 series switches there is a 10/100 ethernet management port.(next to console port on the supervisor engine). Unfortunately there is not enough documentation about this port on cisco web site.

I will really appreciate any help about the below questions. It would be helpful even if you can partly answer the questions.

1. How can I reach this port? do I have to assign IP address in order to use this port?

2. How shall I assign IP address to 10/100 ethernet management port? ( through CLI ?)

3. Is it possible to reach this port through another Layer2 switch?

4. Is this a regular ethernet port where I can connect 100 meters away from the port using CAT 5 cable?

5. What is this port called on CLI? example for 7th gigabit port on slot 1 is called: #interface gigabitethernet 1/7

what would be the interface name for 10/100 management port?

thanks for helping :)

Hi Ohal,

"The Ethernet management port is used (in ROMMON mode only) to recover a switch software image that has been corrupted or destroyed due to a network catastrophe. This port is not active while the switch is operating normally."

http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/lan/cat4000/inst_nts/78_13686.htm#32993

This document explains how to configure this port to recover from a corrupt or missing IOS image:

Bobby
