how to configure the router for transparent proxy?

Hi forum,

Is there a way to pass the LAN traffic to a proxy server configured for transparent proxy? Can it be configured on the router or switches? or must I get a Content server or some sort?

Kind regards,

Paul

Hi

You need to have a Cache Engine for that b'coz a router forwards requests using WCCP.

Pls view following example

http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/cc/pd/cxsr/500/index.shtml

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/contnetw/ps546/products_configuration_example09186a00801abf77.shtml

Hi JD,

Thanks for your response. When you are referring to cache engine, is it something that can be installed on the router or switches? or is it a separate device/software?

Thanks much,

paul

Re: how to configure the router for transparent proxy?

Hi JD,

I did read your first link. Just want to clarify, when I issue IP WCCP command, I get this:

=====================================================

KSO(config)#ip wccp ?

<0-99> Dynamically defined service identifier number

outbound-acl-check Enable acl check on original outbound interface

version protocol version

web-cache Standard web caching service

===================================================

does it mean that i can use my cisco 2620 router to setup for transparent proxy?

Thanks & regards,

Paul

Re: how to configure the router for transparent proxy?

HI

Did you saw the "transparent proxy" config in the ACNS (Content engine)

"http proxy outgoing host 10.48.66.216 8080 primary" which means that the ACNS is forwarding the request to another proxy server.

And the router in turn forward all http request to the ACNS.Hence a 80 port request from any network result in forwarding that request to the ACNS and which in turn send it to Proxy server.

You will notice that the only configuration in the router for all the setup is only "ip wccp...", which indicate that you need to have a WCCP enabled device in your network for the whole idea and for which a Content Engine comes into picture.

I hope I am making myself clear.Pls revert back if you have any problem.

Re: how to configure the router for transparent proxy?

Hi JD,

you are right. the only command available is ip wccp. which mean i have to buy a content engine module. a mistake my router is 2811. doing a search hopefully 2811 can support cache engine...

THanks much for your help,
