how to differentiate C6K-9SLOT-FAN2 and FAN1?

Understand SUP720 only runs with C6K-9SLOT-FAN2.

How do I know whether the customer is using FAN1 or FAN2 now?

Is there any show command to see?

Or any sign on the fan?

You should be able to tell by just looking at it.

My old FAN1 had the slot numbers 1 through 9 along one edge; a bar code sticker between numbers 1 and 2; and a Fan Status LED down by number 9.

My new FAN2 has all of the above, plus: WS-C6K-9SLOT-FAN2= written on it just under one of the thumbscrews and above number 1; FAN TRAY 2 written vertically in big letters above the handle, next to numbers 2 and 3; and a yellow label below the handle down between numbers 7 and 8 that says:

WARNING - THIS FAN TRAY IS DESIGNED TO BE USED WITH A 2500W OR LARGER POWER SUPPLY. DO NOT USE IT WITH THE 1000W OR 1300W POWER SUPPLIES. SYSTEM SHUTDOWN OR DAMAGE MAY OCCUR.

My guess is, when they made FAN1 they had no idea they would ever need to tell it apart from another fan tray, so they didn't bother to put any unique markings on it.

What does 'show environment' give you ?

perhaps you can try with show inventory, I don't know if it works with CatOS version.

It depends on the version of code.

Visually it will state FAN TRAY 2 on the outside of the fan tray.

In later releases of CatOs show environment cooling is available:
