How to download image from TFTP to a ROMMON

HI guys,

This i smy problem.

I have Three routers that are in ROMMON. I already know how to copy the image to the routers doing the xmodem.

What I need is to copy the image from a TFTP Server to the router. I did the following:

rommon 1 > set

rommon 2 > IP_ADDRESS=192.5.5.1

rommon 3 > IP_SUBNET_MASK=255.255.255.0

rommon 4 > DEFAULT_GATEWAY=192.5.5.0

rommon 5 > TFTP_SERVER=192.5.5.2

rommon 6 > TFTP_FILE=c2600-d-mz.121-4

rommon 7 > tftpdnld

This is exacly what i wrote. The IP 192.5.5.2 is the IP of the computer running the TFTP.

what I get with this is a time out error 1.

Also in a document from cisco says that I need to connect the router to the FIRST LAN PORT what is this?

Thanks for your help.

PS this router are from a lab just to do the CCNA.

Thanks JULio

make sure you have a directory off the root named tftpboot.

if you are a hop away, try a ip helper address pointint to the tftp host.

The first lan port is for the cases where you have 2 ether or tokn ports, just use the first one.

Re: How to download image from TFTP to a ROMMON

The main Problem I'm Having is that I can't connect to the tftp server. It gives me a Time out.

This is how is connected.

The the fast ethernet port from the router is connected to a switch and the computer running the tftp server is connected to the same switch.

the router is connected to port 1 in the switch and the computer to the port 2 in the switch.

I cant't ping the router from the computer.

Ok, try a cross over cable and go ethernet to ethernet.

Which tftp server are you running ?

I'm using SolarWinds TFTP.

I will try the crossover cable for the connection.

Also a guy said to use the ip address of the computer running the TFTP as the DEFAULT_GATEWAY on the router. I will try this too.

I appreciate all your help.

Thanks

Re: How to download image from TFTP to a ROMMON

Hi,

My first comment is that the default gateway would be invalid, but that is not supposed to be an issue in this case since we are on the same subnet. However, I'm kind of confused over the filename, aren't you supposed to add a '.bin' to the end as well? Have you looked at the TFTP-console for any kind of error messages?

Kind regards,

/M

Re: How to download image from TFTP to a ROMMON

Thanks to all for your help. I got the connection working the only thing I was missing was to set the

Gateway on the router the same as the IP on the computer.

my image does not have bin. at the end it is working fine.

rommon 1 > set

rommon 2 > IP_ADDRESS=192.5.5.1

rommon 3 > IP_SUBNET_MASK=255.255.255.0

rommon 4 > DEFAULT_GATEWAY=192.5.5.2

rommon 5 > TFTP_SERVER=192.5.5.2

rommon 6 > TFTP_FILE=c2600-d-mz.121-4

rommon 7 > tftpdnld

It worked great it downloaded the image in less than 30 seconds.

Thanks
