How to emulate PSTN?

I've such scheme:

R1aux---modem---???---modem---auxR2

(it's two routers, connected by modems through it's aux ports (back-to-back)).

How can I emulate PSTN (designate as "???")?

You could create yourself a cross-over telephone cord to plug between both modems. However you may have to run them in leased-line mode. Hope this helps.
