How to enter "rommon>" mode on a 2500 series router

After power on, I press "ctrl-break", and enter ">" mode, not "rommon>" mode.

I delete IOS in flash, then reload, the router entered "router(boot)>"

How to enter "rommon>"?

The reason why your in boot mode is because you have no ios in flash, at this point boot mode is a subset of the ios. You can still copy the new image into flash.

Hi, Thank you for your reply.

But I HAVE ios in the flash, and boot image in the ROM.

If I have not ios in the flash, the router will go into "router(boot)>" mode

instead of "rommon>".

If I have ios in the flash and press ctrl-break will it booting, it will also

go into "router(boot)>" mode

Friends tell me that ">" IS the "rommon>", but I hope to use "xmodem"

command to transfer ios to the router. but "xmodem" is not usable

in ">" mode

Your first post said you deleted ios in flash so how can you still have ios in flash. Also if you are in boot mode type en enter it will get you in to boot# prompt. From ther you can tftp new image into flash, which is better than doing xmodem.

the 2500 has a small ios image in ROM.

It is why that even without ios image in flash (or when you try to break the router) you still get into the router(boot)> mode.

What are you trying to do ???? why do you want to be in romon ????
