How to remove vlan1 from dot1q trunk on 3500XL, 2948G Catalyst switches?

I need to attach customers to dot1q trunk ports and i want to remove vlan1 from this ports. I don't want STP on this port. Why cisco make decision that removal of vlan 1 from trunk ports not allowed???

For examle on HP procurve switches all under control.

you cannot that is the default vlan. Use 'set spantree mode pvst+' to enable stp per your trunk per customer

vlan 1 can't be removed from trunk on 2948G (CAT OS) since 5.4.x software release. 3500XL do not support it current and nor there is plan to support it in future. Newer 2950/3550 switches support this feature.
