How to update AS5300 from 60 to 120 MICA modems ?

I have an AS5300 with 4 ports E1 and 60 MICA modems.

I want to update that access server to 120 MICA modems, so I need to add another card supporting other 60 MICA modems.

Since the AS5300 is End of Sale, which card do I have to add ?

I suppose the card for AS5350 (AS535-DFC-60NP) is not good for AS5300.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Yes, you will need another card with 60 MICA modems on it. Since that may not be available upgrading to a as5350 or as5400 will best suit your requirements (can find out with the sales folks if they have buy back scheme or some thing similar going on)

No, the 60NP (next Port) modems cannot be used in the as5300.

Thanks, Mak.

Thank you for the answer.

But according to you, are the following modules sufficient for the update ?

n° 1 AS53-MICA-CC= MICA Carrier Card, Spare

n° 10 MICA-6MOD= 6 Port Digital Modem Network Module, Spare

Instead of 6 port mica modem module, You can use AS53-CC2-DM= as a carrier card with 12DMM= for 12 port mica module to get double density.

Pl. visit following link for part numbers on that

Thank you, one last question:

do you know if there's any particular requirement for the double density ?

i.e., is it supported from the card AS53−4CE1

or is it necessary the plus version AS53−4CE1+ ?

Re: How to update AS5300 from 60 to 120 MICA modems ?

No, there is no special requirement for the DMM (double denisty), it should work the same way as the HMM works.

BTW, the + means the controller card has high speed serial interfaces in addition to the E1s.

Re: How to update AS5300 from 60 to 120 MICA modems ?

But according to you, can I mix in the same chassis the HMM modules with the DMM modules ?

I mean, is it correct the following configuration of cards in a AS5300:

- one AS53-4CE1,

- one AS53-MICA-CC with 10 modules MICA-6MOD,

- one AS53-CC2-DM with 5 modules 12DMM,

for a total of 120 modems ?

In the following link:

http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/access/acs_serv/5300/sw_conf/sw_ports/compmat/53ios6pt.htm

it seems that the HMM and DMM modules have not to be mixed.

Thank you

Re: How to update AS5300 from 60 to 120 MICA modems ?

You need to have a different carrier cards for both thypes of modems if you want to mix them in a chassis. So HMMs will be installed with AS53-MICA-CC carrier card and DMMs will be installed with AS53-CC2-DM. Both in a different slot. Do not mix HMMs and DMMs in a single carrier card.
