HSRP and ip addresses

Just want to make sure I got this right

when using HSRP I need to use basicly three ip addresses in the same IP network, i.e. one address on each HSRP device, and one for the virtual address.

is there any way of just using the virtual address and not having to user three but just one ?

thanks

Re: HSRP and ip addresses

yes you need to have three ip address for HSRP...virtual IP you will use as default gateway configuration in your client...

Re: HSRP and ip addresses

there is no way to use HSRP without 3 IPs per HSRP group.

the Virtual IP basically equals either of the 2 physical IPs.

No.

Real IP address is required to identifiy each of the HSRP group member.
