HSRP and OSPF

Can you use HSRP and OSPF on the same interface ? If you have Router A with 3 interfaces. Can you have one of those interfaces using HSRP and OSPF and the other 2 using OSPF, Router B has one interface running both protocols and one running only OSPF, this is the same for router C ...

Will this work to result in router A sending all its traffic out the interface with both protocols configured ? Unless this interface goes down.

HSRP is used so that devices (like PCs) that only have default gateways can still route past faults in the network. Redundant default gateways.

OSPF allows routers (and some servers) to determine the best path through a network. They don't need HSRP since OSPF will tell them if there's a link down.

HSRP and OSPF are unrelated, so they can be used on the same interface.

If you have something like:

USERS -- 3 HSRP Routers & OSPF -- OSPF routers --- DEST

it would be correct.

Hope that helps.

Mick.
