HSRP over 802.1Q

Hi all,

We have two Cat 6509 and We are going to install HSRP for fault tolerance.

but access switch (cat 2950) have a lot of vlans.

So, I have to connect Cat 6509 with Cat 2950 as 802.1q.

Is this configuration possible ? (802.1q + HSRP)

If so, Is there any configuration example ?

Diagram is .........

Cat 6509(with msfc)--TRUNK--Cat 6509(with msfc)

---------TRUNK----------------------TRUNK-----

(vlan 3, vlan 4, vlan 5)Cat 2950

Default gateway of vlan 3 is 192.168.3.1

Default gateway of vlan 4 is 192.168.4.1

Default gateway of Vlan 5 is 192.168.5.1

Re: HSRP over 802.1Q

This is possible. You have to configure the standby groups on the vlan-interfaces, that's all:

interface Vlan10

description Backup VLAN

ip address 10.10.1.3 255.255.0.0

no ip redirects

no ip proxy-arp

ipx network 52110A0A encapsulation SAP

mls rp vtp-domain XXX

mls rp ip

mls rp ipx

no mop enabled

standby priority 110

standby preempt

standby ip 10.10.1.1

!

As you can see, the enclosed example also utilizes IPX. The gateway-adress is the standby-ip adress. You need to repeat this config for each vlan.

Regards,

Leo
