I have two 6509,each one has one supervisor engine and one MSFC.I configured HSRP between them.
Each 6509 has foure VLANS configured ,and I'm using EIGRP to route between them.
The problem is:
If I connect the two 6509 together (which is the normal case) every things work fine and on the each router I can see the routes to all vlans as a directly connected. BUT if I disconnect the link between the two 6509 (as a test to check the redundancy) within the same router I cannot ping any vlan except vlan1(management vlan)??? And the show ip route shows only one directly connected network which is vlan 1.!!!!
Also at the time of disconnection I can see the all vlans changes state to down !!!
When I re-connect the two 6509 again every things works fine.
I'm sure of the HSRP configuration.
Can somebody help me in this !!! what if one of the 6509 goes down. Why this happened.if the the link between the two 6509 goes down both RP should become in active state..this is not happen with me.
please help

You have to have at least one port active in the vlan for the vlan interface to be up/up. When you break the 6509s, the only pirt in the vlan goes down, so the vlan goes down. Try assigning a few ports in the vlans and have them come up. When you break your trunk, the vlans should stay up.

aha, so my case is normal. You mean that when the link between the two 6509 goes down you cannot ping any Vlan unless there is one active port on that vlan.so if one of the 6509 goes down the other one will take over.
but do you know why this happen ,the vlan goes down when the trunk goes down if there is no active port in that vlan? I mean , why we cannot ping any vlan within the MSFC , each vlan is an interface of the router and we should be able to ping that interface even if there is nothing connected to it !!or no connection between the two 6509.
anyway, I was just wondering , Thank you very much for you help !! I appreciate that.
thanks.
