HSRP - Virtual Routers?

I have a network situation that requires that I have two 2611XM routers with dual FastEthernet on each. I have setup one port on each router with a 172.32.63.x ip number and the other port with a 192.168.1.x address. I have two networks that are needing loadbalance and fail over.

Is it possible with HSRP to have two virtual routers on the same router? or is this not the way to configure the system.

Router 1

Fastethernet 0/0

IP address: 172.32.63.240

Fastethernet 0/1

Ip address: 192.168.1.254

Router 2

Fastethernet 0/0

IP address: 172.32.63.239

Fastethernet 0/1

IP address: 192.168.1.243

Virtual Routers

VR#1: 172.32.63.244

VR#2: 192.168.1.244

(note: no routing protocol used, Static routes only)

this looks good. HSRP provide redundancy for the default gateways so since you have two separete network, you can have virtual ip for each networks

Can you let me know where I am going wrong. I configured my routers for this load balance and everything seems to work except it doesn't load balance. Nor does it fail over correctly. When I do a continues ping and unplug one port on the router the ping brings back a host unreachable error.

Should I leave the Virtual IP address off of one of the routers so that it learns it from the other router?

Config example:

Router 1

IP address 172.32.63.244 255.255.224.0

standby 1 preempt

standby 1 priority 120

Standby 1 ip 172.32.63.244

standby 2 ip 172.32.63.245

Router 2

Ip address 172.32.63.239 255.255.224.0

standby 2 preempt

standby 2 priority 120

Standby 2 ip 172.32.63.245

Standby 1 ip 172.32.63.244

* same thing going on on the other side (network)

** workstations are configured with the 172.32.63.244 for the Default Gateway

*** should I leave the second group with no IP address for the Virtual Router?

How these two routers are connected to each other- Like which switch, make sure you have portfast on the ports of the switch to make this works.

If all of your workstations DG is .244, then there will be no load balancing, for the load balancing to work, you have to make half workstation to configure .245 as the DG and half as .245 as DG

When Testing this link I have a problem with the routers failing over when one port is off line. If the router itself fails the fail-over is smooth. Is there a way of getting the router to fail over when only one port is off-line? I have everything other than this portion working great.
