I'm curious if it's possible or advisable to configure one of the above protocols to achieve interface redundancy with a single router.
For example, if router A connects to a switchcloud with interface 1 connected to switch 1 and interface 2 connected to switch 2 (both of which are interconnected and meshed with other switches in the cloud), would it be possible to configure HSRP/VRRP/GLBP across those two interfaces in order to have a VIP that protects against switch 1 or 2 failing?
Would GLBP be able to load balance traffic across those two switch interfaces to effectively utilize both links?
Is there some other preferable method of preventing a switch from being a single point of failure when there is only one router involved (but obviously multiple switches)?

Hi .. all the methods you are enquiring about need at least two routers for implementation. They provide router redundancy.
If you want to have link redundancy then you can use dymanic routing protocols such OSPF, BGP .. etc or a combination of static routes and floating routes ( static routes with different metrics). For layer 2 redundancy you will use STP protocol.

In your situation, you may have two NIC from the VIP user to both switches. If one of the switches down, it will continue to connect to the network. It is not related to HSRP/GLBP/VRRP.
