I need help.

I got two lan separeted by two routers Cisco 1600 and a serial cable, with hosts win 2k at both side.

All is working fine: ping, tracert and I can map every host from every host. I got no server D.N.S, only workstastions with files lmhosts compiled.

The problem is: why in network neighborhood the workgroup of the opposite lan do not appeare automatically?

Must I use necessarily D.N.S. servers?

In the configurations files of the routers I have activated: ip directed-broadcast.

Thanks.

Re: I need help.

It's been awhile for the Microsoft stuff but here goes...

For browsers to exchange information between layer 3 networks you need a WINS server that all hosts register with. I believe this would allow you to see all your hosts in network neighborhood. On local layer 2 segments the browse master will allow all your hosts within a workgroup/domain to see each other. This (WINS) is pretty easy to setup if you have an NT Server somewhere in your network.

Hope this helps,

Don

Re: I need help.

thank you for the intormation but I am not able to reach the url because it doesn't accept my user name and password, and if I must make a new registration I should be CCIE which I am not.

If you are so kind to send me the page by email, I will appreciate. My mail is: gbsalerno@libero.it
