IBM Type-1 for 4500 48-10/100port card

Hello.

I have 4506 with 48-10/100 port card.

I've read that this card supports Cat5 copper cabling. My question: can I use IBM-Type-1 cabling (150 Ohm) without any transiver ? Is there any command on the switch to support it ?

Thank you.

You shouldn't directly attach the Type 1 to an active port designed for UTP/Cat(anything). It is a severe impedence mismatch and it's likely (depending on your setup) that the shield will not be properly grounded ... which may also cause adverse affects to the signalling.

The performance would be significantly degraded, even for short runs.

I don't believe the port would be at risk, but it could be a possibility .. depending on the (port) transciever's tolerance to high SWR.

You may be able to squeeze by if it's an emergency, but normal day-to-day operation shouldn't even be considered.
