idb and virtual interfaces limitations

I read a document regarding idb limitations but I have still some doubts....

In few words , the idb limit is related to the sum of HW ans SW idb or only SW??

An example : there is a 3640 using virtual interfaces.

Making show idb I note that :

Limit 800

hwidb 488 478 populated by Virtual Access 10 populated by hardware intf.

swidb 494

If the limit is related to Swidbs, then in this example the router have enough resources to create another 300s virtual interfaces??...Is correct

Thanks all

Re: idb and virtual interfaces limitations

Stephano,

The maximum number of interfaces (physical, subinterface, or virtual) a router can handle depends on the maximum number of SWIDBs it can use as per this URL:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/products/sw/iosswrel/ps1835/products_tech_note09186a0080094322.shtml#max_no_interfaces

So, I would conclude that you are correct in your assumption. Hope this helps,

Don
