Dear Sir,
We have a Central Site (India) with 1751 router acting as internet connectivity router used for web browsing. We are using 64Kbps internet leased line for the same.
Same router acts as a VPN concentrator to which all the remote dial-in user from foreign country connect by dialing in to their local ISP.
Other application include incoming and outgoing MAILs from the same 64Kbps ILL pipe.
Problem we are facing is that users coming from foreign country to access SAP server at central location are complaining of performance problem.
Is it a bandwidth bottleneck do we need to upgrade the ILL pipe from 64Kbps to 128Kbps will this solve the performance problem.
Can we rate limit for e.g dedicated 32Kbps for VPN users and rest for Web browsing and Post master Mail applications.
Any suggestion/Configuration will be helfpul to solve the problem.
Regards
Deepak

Hello Deepak,
Reading what you are all doing over this 64k line, it seems to me that a serious upgrade of the bandwidth is needed. 128k will probably not suffice. To reduce the amount of Internet traffic you could also look at content networking as a caching solution.
VPN traffic is to a certain extent time-critical. I would not advise you to tamper with that in any way or you might start to lose connections.

Leo

Hi Leo,
Only 14-15 users come thru VPN .
Could u pls explore about Caching option.
Can putting a MOD-1700 VPN accelerator Card in 1751-V internet router improve the performance.
Can we do a rate limiting for the above scenario.
Pls advice
