In MST, how to add/remove vlan without network interruption?
We have a large switched network with 8 core switches. Because some vlans have to span the whole network, so we have to use spanning tree for the whole network.
for faster failover, the user chosed MST to be implemented. When addding /removing vlan or changing vlan instance mapping on one core switch, it will cause the whole network spanning tree problem. What is the recommended way to do these changes? Or shall I advise the user to fall back to PVST+?
Re: In MST, how to add/remove vlan without network interruption?
As long as the root and designated bridges do not change due to the changes that you make, other VLANs will not be affected even with MST. However, moving to PVST+ seems to be a better choice to prevent other vlans from being affected.
