incompatibility between 3661 and telebit modems

I have a problem with the mica modems within my 3661 not being able to receive calls from telebit modems. Does anyone know of any issues with this. These modems are quite old but we have about 3000 of them. Dialout to the telebit works Ok but not dialin.

At what stage does the call fail for dialin? Telebit modems have been tested for compatibility with the MICA, please go to link below & click for "Modem Interoperability List":

http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/471/tuning_14283.shtml

Can you please capture the following for a single call in,

deb isdn q931 (or deb cas) / deb modem / deb modem csm / deb ppp nego

If you have AAA enabled, then add deb aaa authen / deb aaa author

Thanks, Mak.

Mak,

First of all, thanks for your reply,

When the system was installed it was done by a ccie, he could not get the mica's to correctly interoperate with the majority of the telebit modems. He raised a case at the time (two years ago!) and was told by Cisco that they would not work happily together. I was hoping that in the ensuing time that Cisco would have a developed a patch for this. I was also told by an ex telebit engineer then working for Cisco that the only way around was to 'blow' the eproms in the remote modems. They believed that the incompatibility was due to a security protocol that telebit employed called PEP. It is difficult at this stage to perform the diags you require as I do not have full control over accessing the modems. Originally, the 3661 was installed for four different reasons, this was only one of the four. Now, my company insist we relook at this issue. NB these modems are a lot older that 2 years old. I would be very grateful if you could shed some light on this matter.... Thanks.

What MICA portware are we presently running? Portware 2.9.4.0 is the latest, worth giving it a try.

Thanks, Mak.

Mak,

How do you tell the portware? I have tried show modem version.

Do you think it might have changed over the last two years?

Thanks.

show modem version is the correct command...what does the output say?

There have been a lot of changes (new portware releases) in the last 2 years.

Thanks, Mak.

Can you tell from this that the version is not compatible with telebit and the latest versions are?

Thanks again.

Mica modem firmware version is 2720 as you can see "CP ver 2720". Which is good firmware though. That should work with any modems. Now we need to know

what exactly doesn't work?

What is the reason Cisco (2 yrs ago) pointed that both will not go along?

What is different with telebit modems which generic modems dosen't have?

How far two modems go during connection between two modems when mica dialin to telebit modems?

Do you here modem handshake etc...?

So as Mak pointed, you can use mica modem firmware 2.9.4.0 if you want V.92 on 3660 using mica. BUT if you only need V.90 then you need to use 2.7.4.0 as mica firmware.

I have managed to talk to the ccie that implemented this solution 2 and a half years ago. He said that Cisco stated that I would never be able to get this working while the modems run this PEP protocol on the telebits as it is something to do with v25 bis. He said that we tried to take off the PEP on the modem using at/s settings but this didnt work. Until I can do this it will not work. Does that make sense?

That sounds correct to me.

You can get the latest MICA portware (same as firmware) in the below URL by clicking on "Mica modems" in the Modem firmware section.

2.7.4.0 OR 2.9.4.0 are worth trying....Upgrade procedure is as follows:

Thanks, Mak.
