Increasing the MTU size on Ethernet from 1500

Has anyone changed the MTU for Ethernet from the default 1500 to a greater number. We currently run our backups over FDDI which we are running a MTU of 4352. When we run them over 100 Meg Ethernet the backups take 25% longer. I am wondering if I increase the Ethernet MTU if that will help. Does anyone know what I can change the MTU on Ethernet to or if I shouldn't even mess with it.

Re: Increasing the MTU size on Ethernet from 1500

Hi,

I don't think u need to change MTU for increasing the back up speed. The default 1500 bytes r normally sufficient for good performance. You can increase MTU by going to that int and changing mtu with the command MTU < of="" bytes="">.

(conf-if)#mtu 4352

Regards,

Homin
