Inline power question

Hi,

I'm new to this field so please bear with me...

We have a 3500 XL series switch with inline power. Can any (capable) device use this feature or are only Cisco products supported?

Thanks,

Denis

I have found something from the following link:

http://www.cisco.com/cpropart/salestools/cc/pd/si/casi/ca3500xl/prodlit/cfig3_an.htm

Here it says '...the Catalyst 3524-PWR XL switches also provide the capability to supply inline power to the Cisco IP phones.'

With it mentioning Cisco specifically, I presume it is only Cisco products.

But then, elsewhere on the website it says, 'Integrated inline power provides DC power to devices that can accept power over traditional UTP cabling (such as the Cisco 7900 family of IP phones).'

This is a bit contradicting - sorry.

Cisco implements the 802.3af standard for power over ethernet. Any product that uses this same standard will be compatible. You may want to review the UPS power requirements for the power over ethernet also.
