input and runts errors on a 3548xl switch

Getting a large number of input, runts, collisions and deferred errors on a port connected to a 3640 router. The 3640 router is only showing a large number of collisions and deferred errors, it does have secondary addresses on its ethernet interface.Have replaced the cable, tried another port on the switch and manually set the port speed and duplex mode to match the router settings.

Re: input and runts errors on a 3548xl switch

if this is 10 half duplex port, then the collisions and multiple collision are common which can cause other errors too.

Re: input and runts errors on a 3548xl switch

If the port is 10/Half, what you are seeing is the result of a very busy segment inducing a lot of collisions. This is the cause of the runts, deferred, ...

As a solution, you can configure the router and the switch to use full-duplex. Full-duplex setting on ethernet on a 3600 is available since 12.0(4)T.
