intermittant pings

I have a 3548 switch that when I do an extended ping of the management IP it pings consistantly. However when I ping a device from the arp table either

from the outside or from the device itself it will get intermittent time outs. I have

tried a new switch, gbics blew away the config and reconfigured but still get

the time outs. Any suggestions on what else to look at.

Re: intermittant pings

Are you getting timeouts trying to ping user interfaces ? I would make sure your users interfaces are correct and don't have nic /switch interface mismatches . Match switch and user nic card settings . If you have the switch set as auto then user nic should be set as auto , if hardcoded 100/full on switch make sure user nic is set as 100/full . Are you seeing errors on the user port s ? If devices are running full duplex you should see very few errors , if not you have a problem .
