What are the metrics used between routers in Internet if they are in differnet autonomus system ?

I know that BGP is used between them but dose there is max TTL vlaue or max number of hops .Any refrences about BGP will help.

Re: Internet Routing protocol Metric

Take a look here:

http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/459/25.shtml

for the best path calculation. For general BGP, you can poke around the BGP pages on CCO:

My recommendation for a "beginner" book for BGP would be the little BGP book in the Networking Basics series on Addison Wesley. For a more advanced book, take a look at Practical BGP, coming out in July on Addison-Wessley.
