Interrogating 2950G

I am trying to get MRTG working on 2950. however there are no logs or png files. Do I need to enable anything on the switch ?

Can anyone give any advice ?

Hi Andy,

We have mrtg working OK on switch ports.

For a start, you may want to run 'debug snmp headers' to see if the mrtg box snmp queries are actually reaching your 2950.

If not, then you'll have to fix this first (routing problem, switch port settings, mrtg daemon not running, etc.).

If your seeing info, then your snmp configuration on your router may not match your mrtg configuration. Check things in the switch config like snmp community strings, access-lists on the Read-Only strings.

The mrtg config is usually located in a file called mrtg.cfg.

what happens when you run the mrtg /etc/2950sName.cfg? Do you get any errors? How are you making your config files?

cfgmaker -community=public X.X.X.X > 2950Name.cfg

Replace public with the community string on the switch and X.X.X.X with the ip of the switch. Than run mrtg on that config file (after editing it to ensure you specify the html, image, and log directories). Before doing this, ensure you have the appropriate community string specified in the switch.
