using a cisco 2610 (ios 12.1(14) with one ethernet interface (e0/0) and a catalyst 2912xl-en (ios 12.0(5)WC3b) configured 802.1Q trunking. with the present config: from the router can reach (ping) network on e0/0.1 sub interface. from the router can reach (ping) e0/0.2 sub interface. however from the router cannot reach host on e0/0.2 sub interface, and host cannot reach router or network on e0/0.1.debugging results with "e0/0.1ecapsulation failed" and "01:45:21: IP ARP rep filtered src 192.168.0.1 dst 192.168.1.1 0050.735e.8940 wrong cable, interface Ethernet0/0 MobileIP: Ethernet0/0 add 192.168.1.1 rejected.what is causing this?thanks in advance,sb

Because you are using the 802.1q trunking in the vlan1.In order to make the inter-switch woking ,You can not set the subinterface for the vlan1 in the cisco2610.Regarding the vlan1 interface in the router cisco2610,You must use the main interface, other than vlan1,using the sub-interface.

that was it, thanks much.

While configuring InterVLAN routing between a switch and router, you have to create the sub-interfaces for all the VLANs which are present on the switch. Even for VLAN1 also.In your setup, I guess the problem could be having mismatched Native VLAN. The Native VLAN should be same on the trunk port on the router as well as on the switch for dot1q trunking.

There is very good document available on Cisco site. Refer to this document for more details about this configuration.

Hope this helps

you are correct.

However for this case, because the cisco 2610 ios version can't support to define the native vlan1 under the sub-interface.Hence you had to apply the main interface.

there is also another good document availalble on Cisco site.http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/473/50.shtml#801.1Q

I would suggest upgrading to 12.2.2.T or higher. There is where dot1q on 10 Meg links was first truely supported.
