Is there a tool where I can choose IOS releases by the type of hardware that is supported?
I am aware of the IOS Upgrade Planner and I have used it, but the tool does not identify if the IOS will support the specific modules installed in the router (i.e. multiflex T1 module).

you can use the hardware/software matrix. You need a CCO login for this, though:
