IOS image download

I have a catalyst 6509 switch with an MSFC2. I want to upgrade the image but before that I want to download the existing image as a kind of backup in case of any eventuality.

I have a problem using "copy disk0:tftp" since the image size is bigger than 16MB.

Any help folks ?

Re: IOS image download

Hi Friend,

I think you are using a cisco tftp server which gives soem problem for large size image.

Can you try with some other tftp server.Generally soalris wind tftp server can handle image upto 22-24 MB in size.

Or if you have enough space on your sup-bootflash: you can keep the backup image on that and boot the sup from the latest image which you want loading on disk0:

Re: IOS image download

Thanks Ankur,

The new image size is 36.5 MB and I guess solaris tftp cannot do that. I have hear people talk about "ftp" but I have never used that option. Any insight into that if you do know how ?

Re: IOS image download

Hi Friend,

Yes that will going to be a good idea.

Check this link

http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/lan/cat6000/122sx/cmdref/clear1.htm#wp1067758

Though I have not tried this on cat6k but yes have tried on 3600 router and it worked.

Regards,

Ankur
