IOS upgrade

Hi

we have several switches 5500s and 6500s with software versions 5.1 to 5.2. Now, we are planning for upgrading the switch sofwtares to IOS 12.2.

One problem that I foresee is that the commands in the old version of software were set-based while the new version understands only the IOS commands. is there any method by which we can upgrade the commands also, i.e. changing from set based to IOS commands.

Are there any other problems that we might face? Please reply.

Thanx in advance

There is no native IOS for the 5500's. For the 5500's you can upgrade to either 5.5(16) or 6.3(9). Check the release notes for memory requirements/rommon requirements.

For the 6500, you can go to native IOS but there is no 12.2 for Sup1. Also you need to have an MSFC to go to native IOS. Post the output of sh ver from your 6500
