I want to use the IOS indicated in the system bootstrap.

ROM: System Bootstrap, Version 12.1(3r)T2, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)

Here is the entire show version

Cisco Internetwork Operating System Software

IOS (tm) C2600 Software (C2600-I-M), Version 12.1(2), RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)

Copyright (c) 1986-2000 by cisco Systems, Inc.

Image text-base: 0x80008088, data-base: 0x807D2544

ROM: System Bootstrap, Version 12.1(3r)T2, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)

Router uptime is 6 days, 1 hour, 45 minutes

System returned to ROM by power-on

System image file is "flash:c2600-i-mz.121-2.bin"

cisco 2621 (MPC860) processor (revision 0x200) with 53248K/12288K bytes of memory.

Processor board ID JAD050697GK (621243050)

M860 processor: part number 0, mask 49

Bridging software.

X.25 software, Version 3.0.0.

2 FastEthernet/IEEE 802.3 interface(s)

2 Serial network interface(s)

32K bytes of non-volatile configuration memory.

16384K bytes of processor board System flash (Read/Write)

Configuration register is 0x2102

As you can see it is booting with a different IOS that is not capable to use VPN. Is there anyway to do this other than loading a new IOS in flash. Can I boot to the IOS in Bootstrap? Here is the show flash also

1 4294248 c2600-i-mz.121-2.bin

Thank you

JT

Hello JT,

Your only option will be to upgrade the IOS. The boot software has less features than any image that you can run from ram.

To use VPN's you will need an image that is capable of encryption (DES or 3DES). Order a suitable image from your reseller and install it on the router.

Please note that export restrictions apply to 3DES images.

Leo

Thanks, that is what I was afraid of.
