I have a routed metro ethernet LAN using 4500s (sup IV) and 3750s as the routers/switches. I need to perform some IP accounting on either of those chassises (preferably the 3750s) to determine top talkers, but it appears that feature is not enabled/supported on these devices. What can I use instead? Thanks,
3750 is a hardware forwarding platform, and it does not support IP Accounting.3750 does support CEF(Cisco Express Frowarding ). CEF is enabled by default and CEF FIB is stored in TCAM. Basing on this, hardware is programmed to forward traffic.
One alternative to see flows going out an interface configured for IP routing is to do port SPAN to monitor traffic from any port on the switch. On 3750s, there is no CEF table where you can extract data from to see the IP flows and how much data those flows have generated.
if you want to see what's going in and out an interface. A syslog server or a sniffer would be required to capture the SPAN traffic.
This is actually a pretty cool feature, i didn't even know it existed until I was looking for a solution to advertise a subnet (prefix in BGP talk), only if a certain condition existed. This is exactly what conditional advertisements does
