Should an ip address conflict with a router interface in a subnet(VLAN) cause that router to stop forwarding packets through that interface ?
Also, how can you dynamically protect(shield) the router from such offence ?
Thanks
Tayo.

1.-Identify who has this ip
nbtstat -a 10.0.0.100 for example
2.- change this ip in this workstation
3.- define guidelines for ip adrress administration
I thing that it's the better.

Seems like we had a problem once where the rotuer appeared to stop forwarding when someone took its address. What really happened was that traffic was going to the address thief instead of the router so the router didnt have it to forward.

What we have done in the past is that we use the first available host address in a subnet as the router IP address. Might that help?
Guess it doesnt stop anyone without knowledge from taking that address in the end.
If you are on a corporate LAN why not build a windows 2000 server or linux whatever and set it up to offer the DHCP service.
Hope this helps.

Duplicate IP address will cause problems in ARP table and hence the packets won't get forwarded.
