ip cef

What can I use this for, is it mainly load balancing, or for multilinks etc ?

Re: ip cef

AFAIK, Cisco Express Forwarding is an implementation of IP forwarding done nearly in hardware (ASIC). It works similarly to Layer 2 switching, which can be done at very high speeds.

Traditionally, IP forwarding was done in software, limiting the throughput and performance of routers. Cisco Express Forwarding is like Layer 3/4 switching, done nearly in hardware, instead of software, and thus achieving very high forwarding rates.

hi

In addition to the other post you can deploy this to achieve uniform load balancing either per-packet or per-destination based.

It depends on the kinda traffic you have in place in your network based on which you can decide to go off for the option on either per-packet or per-detstination.As alwasys recommended dont make use of per-packet when you voice traffic on the links.
