Now that NBAR is supported on this supervisor, can anyone tell me what performance issues I will experience by enabling IP CEF and IP NBAR, since, according to thsi article the only way it can be done is via software only. Will enabling CEF/NBAR make a negligible performance hit on the CPU or is this something I need to be very concerned about.

Ryan,
You need to make sure that you have enough memory to enable IP CEF and you dont have to worry about the performance hit on on the CPU as the packets are gonna be cef switched. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the resposne. How would one go about determing the amount of memory requried before turning on IP CEF ? I can see where this would be important since you could potentially crash a router by turning on cef if it doesn't have appropriate memory, right? Any suggestions on how to determine CEF memory requirements for a router?
Also, don't the MSFC's and PFC's use IP CEF by default?
