Can I do IP routing with catalyst 6509 at full line speed of OC3 interface(ATM) using SUP2 engine. What are the limitations on IP routing with catalyst 6500 compared to 7200 or 7500 series router ? I know routing table size is one of them. What else are other main limitations ?
I want to configure one IP address to each of the subiunterfaces on OC3 ATM interface of this catalyst switch and to have end to end IP conversation like a router . Is it possible ? I may be going to use static routes(only).
Yes, line rate @OC3 speeds routing is no problem with an MSFC2 in your Catalyst as well. There is a 256K limit in the mls table, which means you could have a max of 256K routes make it into your HW forwarding tables.
Your configuration question with the ATM OC3 subinterfaces will work fine regardless if you use static or dynamic routes.
