Re: ip tcp adjust-mss and ip mtu

Hi there,

ip mtu is for the physical packet size sent out of the interface, this needs to be the same on both sides of the interface for this to work.

http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/software/ios123/123tcr/123tip1r/ip1_i2gt.htm#wp1163967

ip tcp adjust-mss is for the TCP SYN packets that go through the interface.

http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/software/ios123/123tcr/123twr/wan_i1gt.htm#wp1056884

Remember - this is for TCP packets and is for the layer 3 packet. The ip mtu is for the layer 2 frame size. Therefore the size of your adjust-mss needs to take the layer 2 header into account.

Regards
