Is 4506 + sup 4 faster than 6059 + sup 2 ???

According to spec

A 4506/4507R with sup 4 has 64G backplane, forward 48Mbps. Sup 4 has 333 MHZ CPU.

A standard 6509 with sup 2 and PFC card has 32 G backplane, 30 Mbps. Sup 2 has 300 MHZ CPU.

is a 4506 faster than a standard 6509 (no SFM)?

I know some line cards of 6500 series have DFC option.

Do 4500 line cards have similar option?

Appreciate for any thoughts, inputs, comments.

Re: Is 4506 + sup 4 faster than 6059 + sup 2 ???

In reading the spec, it might seem that way, but a 6509 with switch fabric can push 256Mbps and the line cards support a true 100% throughput per port, not shared processors per every 8 ports in a 4500. So a 6509 will move more data per port sustained then a Cat 4000.

You also have to think about redundancy in a 6500. In Native mode if a sup fails there is no downtime to swap it, in a 4507 it will take a minute or more for the sups to swap in case of a failure.
