Is ATM bi-directional full-duplex?

If I have a 10mbs VBR PVC configured on a DS-3 circuit, in theory can I get 20mbs throughput? If I have a user on each side of the ATM link each copying a 300MB file, 300MB inbound and 300MB outbound on the interface, and there is no other service vying for the bandwidth, do I get 10mbs or 20mbs aggregate throughput?

(Disregard the SAR overhead - just working on the theory)

You'd get 10Mb TX and 10Mb for RX. So your file transfer throughput (theoretical and assuming nothing else is slowing this down) would be 10Mb.

20Mb is calculated aggregate both TX and RX data flows.

Hope this helps you,
