Is MPLS-VPN service more efficient not crossing igp area borders

is mpls-vpn service across our transit isp backbone (no synch, all routers run mp-bgp) more efficient (faster, better intra-as path selection) when the igp (is-is) is not divided into areas?

Re: Is MPLS-VPN service more efficient not crossing igp area bor

it depends.

Your mpls/vpn is dependent on how fast your igp

can converge.

So ask yourself the question, does isis converge faster with or wirhout area ?

And once again, it depends.

So, do not try to design your igp with mpls/vpn in mind.

Just make sure you have fast convergence.

I would recommend to go with areas and try to have

route summarization.
