Is the Catalyst 5500 considered a supported switch for IP Telephony?

Because the 5500 does not support 2 queues for prioritizing voice over other traffic is it considered a non-supported IP Telophony switch?

If you want to deploy Ip telphony and

would like to have a very good quality out of it.

It is recommended to use a voice capable switch i.e a switch

than can at the least creat two vlans ( two queues). auxiliary (voice vlan) and normal data vlan.

Voice traffic are given a very high priority to data frame on the layer 2 device that supports voice.

You can use a c5500 100baseT switch but you cannot gurantee QOS at

layer 2. 100 base T is sill CSMA/CD so this might be a problem on a data

and voice mixed environement.

use cat 2924Xl's, cat4XXX , cat65XX etc.
