Is there a new protocol or solution to replace multilink PPP so that full E1 ISDN backup performance can be achieved from a cisco router?

We have ascertained by testing that we can only achieve about 512k max throughput on an ML-PPP configured ISDN backup link. We need to be able to provide full E1 backup speeds, but have Cisco resolved the issue above, or maybe there is another solution for full E1 backup of a leased line connection?

MPPP is the only solution, but maybe

there are improvements that can be

made.

First, make sure you are running recent

code; there have been switching fixes.

Next, keep in mind that there are platform

dependencies and packet size dependencies.

Finally, ensure that WFQ, interleaving,

MPPP fragmentation, and compression are

disabled - they will only decrease the

throughput seen.
